Florida has over 28,000 electric vehicles on the road, and that number is growing every day. Florida is the state with the second-highest accumulation of electric cars; we’re only outdone by California. The increasing need makes finding an unoccupied vehicle charging station difficult, so Art Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electric has the solution.
At-home charging stations are the best option for South Floridians who want to keep their electric vehicle charged at their convenience.
The type of vehicle charging station you have in your home will depend on how much you use your electric vehicle and how far you travel on a daily basis. If you’re unsure if you should upgrade your at-home charging station, a professional at Art Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electric would be happy to help.
There are three primary levels of charging stations. What charging station you have in your home depends on your electric vehicle’s use and how quickly you want your car to charge.
When you buy an electric car, you’ll also get an at-home charger. This will typically be a level one charger. It typically won’t require any professional installation, and it will connect right to a power outlet. They don’t need any professional installation or extra equipment.
They’re typically for at-home use, but they can also be found at offices for employee use. These chargers are great if you work close to home and don’t travel outside of your town very often. Unfortunately, for most of us, that just won’t cut it.
Level one chargers can provide two to five miles of driving for every hour charged. If you leave it overnight, about ten hours, that’s still only 20 to 50 miles of driving a day. For most people, 50 miles of driving a day is cutting it very close after going to work and running errands.
Upgrading your at-home charger to level two can save you a lot of time and money in the long run. You’ll never have to pay at a charging station in town because you will always have an opportunity to charge your car. You will never have to be afraid of taking long trips.
This upgraded vehicle charging station will provide you with 10 to 20 miles of driving distance per hour of being charged. That’s a considerable jump from the two to five miles you get with a level one charger. If you want complete assurance you won’t run out of juice when you leave your house, a level two charger is the way to go.
The best part is that you’ll no longer have to fight with other electric drivers at work for a charging station. You’ll have enough juice to get to and from work every day with no problems.
These level two chargers need to be professionally installed because they require more equipment and voltage to work properly and safely.
The third type of vehicle charging station is the DC fast charge. It charges vehicles very quickly, giving up to 80 miles in 20 minutes of charging, but there’s a catch. These chargers require special equipment in the charging station and special equipment in the vehicle it’s charging.
If your car is not made with these specific chargers in mind, then you will be unable to utilize these charging stations. They’re typically only found in commercial charging stations or heavily trafficked areas. These are not the chargers you’ll want to be installed in your home.
First and foremost, it’s the most convenient way to fuel your car. Charge your car while you’re sleeping, and it’ll be ready to go in the morning. You won’t have to waste any more time waiting around at a public charging station.
You’ll save a ton of money by not paying to charge at a commercialized station. After installation, the only payment you’ll be responsible for is your electric bill.
Charging stations installed by a specific car brand can be different from the stations you’re used to. They may not even fit your particular vehicle. By having a station installed in your home, you’ll know that it will always fit and charge your car.
