Questions To Ask Before AC Replacement

AC Replacement

Replacing your air conditioner is unfortunately something that you may have to do several times in your lifetime. AC replacement isn’t the most enjoyable of things which you can spend your money on, but it beats living in Boca without a proper cooling system in the heat of summer. If your air conditioning system isn’t performing as it should, it may be time to replace your unit instead of repairing it.

There are a few questions you need to ask your contractor before replacing your air conditioning unit.

  1. Quotations

Find out if the company whose services you’re considering will offer you a no obligation estimate. This is important as more unscrupulous companies will provide you with a quotation and then insist that you utilize their services. The quotation itself should include everything from labor, to parts and even details on the warranty of the new unit. Understandably, unexpected things may occur during the installation process, so the quotation may change. The company must give you notice of the issue and you must give approval before your contractor can alter the quotation. If you do not approve of the quotation, you are not obligated to utilize their services.

  2. Recommended AC Systems

Speak to an AC contractor prior to installation to discuss which air conditioning unit will be ideal for your home and your needs. If your AC is too small, your home won’t be cool enough and if it’s too large it’ll continuously cycle on and off which will cause damage to the unit. By speaking to a contractor, you’ll get a better understanding of what’s suitable for your home and find a decent AC replacement that’s within your budget.

  3. Cost Effective Systems

Some homeowners prefer to take a more cost-effective approach when it comes to installing an air conditioning unit. Speak to your ac contractor to find out not only what is recommended by the company, but which system will be more cost effective for you in the long run. Energy efficient systems may cost more in the beginning but over time the reduction in your utility bill can save you hundreds of dollars each year.

  4. Life Expectancy

Speak to your contractor about the life expectancy of your new unit. You need to know exactly how long it will last. Remember, with regular maintenance you may be able to squeeze an extra year or two out of the unit before you’ll need to consider a replacement.

  5. Service Plans

Find out if the contractor that will be installing your unit offers service or maintenance plans. At Art Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electric, we have a preventative maintenance program in place to help our clients when an unexpected emergency arises. Part of the program includes annual maintenance as well as priority scheduling and 24/7 emergency assistance.

  6. Licensing

Ask your potential contractor if all of their AC contractors are fully licensed by the state. AC replacement does involve aspects of electrical work. In certain states, contractors must be state licensed in order to do any work involving household electrical systems. If they aren’t licensed, you may want to utilize the services of a different company. Art Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electric, is fully licensed and has the necessary experience to quickly and safely install your AC unit.

AC systems are an added value to any home, especially when you’re living in the sunshine state. Don’t compromise on quality service nor a quality AC unit because you will end up paying a lot more money if the service and the unit are not up to standard.
